Dental Veneers: Cost of Veneers & What You Need to Know
If you’re looking for a less invasive dental option to shape and enhance your natural smile, veneers might be the answer.
What are veneers?
Veneers are thin layers of porcelain or resin applied to your tooth’s front surface to enhance its colour or shape.
There are two main types of dental veneers such as porcelain and composite veneers. Porcelain veneers are crafted by our local master ceramists, before we bond them to your prepared natural teeth. Composite veneers, also known as bonding, uses a traditional filling material such as composite resin. The composite resin veneers are applied immediately and directly to your natural teeth by your dentist. Sometimes we add small amounts of filling material to achieve your desired outcome.
Porcelain veneers can last longer than bonding. But they are more invasive, as you’ll need to have some enamel removed from your tooth. As a cosmetic dentist, we take special care to remove the least amount of tooth enamel possible before attaching veneers. On average, and with good care and maintenance, porcelain veneers last up to 10 to 12 years.

Are Dental veneers right for me?
A Dental Veneer is excellent at correcting your tooth colour and shape, as well as fixing gaps between teeth. it's also less invasive than getting crowns.
But to be a good candidate for dental veneers, you'll need good overall healthy teeth. Any issues – such as tooth decay or periodontal disease – will need to be addressed before you can consider veneers.
You might not be able to receive veneers if:
• You don’t have enough enamel left on your tooth
• You grind your teeth
• Too much of your tooth is chipped off or broken
If you’re considering veneers, we will also discuss whether tooth whitening or straightening might be better options for you.
Composite Veneers vs Porcelain Veneers
factors to consider
Choosing veneers is an important decision based on your personal circumstances. Here are some factors to consider:
Cost
A composite veneer is generally considered an affordable option, ranging from $600-$1300 per tooth. On the other hand, porcelain veneers cost more and are considered a premium cost option, ranging from $1850-$2480 per tooth.
Lifespan
It is essential to keep in mind the long-term costs of repairs and replacement. Composite veneers have a shorter lifespan and are more prone to staining, wear, and damage, while porcelain veneers are stronger and last longer.
Materials
Material differences between composite and porcelain veneers also play a role in the decision-making process. Composite resin is a brittle material and prone to chipping and breaking, while porcelain is superior in both color and optical properties, strength, and stain resistance. A porcelain veneer offers a more natural final result, and with good home care and maintenance, it can last for 10-15 years or longer.

FAQs
Composite and porcelain veneers involve the removal of some of the front teeth surface structure to make space for the veneers. The amount of tooth structure removed depends on the desired aesthetic outcome. For minor shape adjustments, composite dental bonding, which is a thin layer of composite resin, may be used without damaging the healthy tooth enamel.
Typically, both types of veneers require at least two visits to the dentist. For composite veneers, the process can be time-consuming as the material is handcrafted directly onto your teeth. However, in some cases, this can be completed in a single visit along with your initial consultation and cleaning. In contrast, porcelain veneers require two appointments.
The first appointment involves tooth preparation, followed by placement of temporary veneers until the final porcelain veneers are ready. The temporary veneers are not as durable or stain-resistant but allow you to test your new smile and ensure your satisfaction. The final appointment involves cementing the porcelain veneers in place.
Veneers require some removal of tooth structure, but the amount removed is minimal and generally does not damage the teeth. However, once the tooth structure is removed, it cannot be restored.
Dental veneers should be cared for like natural teeth, with good oral hygiene which includes regular brushing, flossing, and dental checkups. Avoid biting or chewing on hard objects, such as ice or pencils, as this can damage the veneers.
Dental bonding is a cosmetic dental procedure that involves applying a tooth-colored resin to a tooth to improve its appearance.
It can be used to repair chips, cracks, worn teeth and discoloured teeth, as well as to close gaps between teeth and to change the shape or size of teeth. Bonding typically involves minimal preparation of the tooth and can often be completed in a single visit.
While both composite veneers and dental bonding use the same material and can achieve similar results, the amount of material used and the extent of tooth preparation differ between the two procedures.
